Body Found On Fife Shoreline That Of Missing Fisherman
A body discovered on the shoreline in Fife has been identified as that of a fisherman missing after the boat he and two friends were in overturned at sea.
The family of Jason Buchan, from East Wemyss, said they were heartbroken'' after police confirmed his body was found by a member of the public at West Wemyss at about 1pm yesterday.
The 35-year-old was reported missing along with Birrell Stewart, 30, and David Stead, 47, on August 10 after their 10ft fishing boat capsized in the Firth of Forth.
Mr Stewart was recovered from the water about a mile off the coast of East Wemyss and airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he died a short time later.
The search for Mr Stead continues after police confirmed that human remains found on West Sands in St Andrews earlier this month are not connected to the tragedy.
In a statement released through police, Mr Buchan's family thanked the emergency services for their hard work during the search and the local community for their support.
They said: Words cannot describe our feelings at this time. The death of Jason has left our family heartbroken.
Jason was a loving son, brother, father-of-three, partner and friend.
Our thoughts are with the friends and families of David Stead, who is still missing, and Birrell Stewart.''
Chief inspector Adrian Annandale, area commander for Levenmouth, said: It is with sadness that we can confirm the body of Jason Buchan has been recovered.
My thoughts are with Mr Buchan's family at this very difficult time. Our investigation continues with regards to David Stead.''
Police said investigations were also continuing in an effort to identify the remains found at St Andrews.
