'Blether Bus' supporting women in Angus
The Glen Clova and Isla projects ran the bus as part of mental health awareness week
Women across Angus were last week supported by the blether bus.
Run by the Glen Glova and Isla projects as part of their mental health awareness week action.
The projects support the most vulnerable women in the community and their families.
The bus stopped in Arbroath, Kirriemuir, Forfar, Brechin and Montrose where women involved in the projects were welcomed aboard.
In a social media post about the project, Angus Council said: "This pilot project is promoting good mental health, in particular feelings of loneliness and isolation. It’s a good way for everyone to come together and have a blether and a cuppie whilst enjoying the lovely scenery across Angus. "
Shelly Black, a family support officer at the Glen Clova project is telling us the idea behind the bus. She said: "To start getting women back together. To reduce their social isolation and give them the opportunity to meet others and just have a chat.
"It was about their mental health and their social isolation. Obviously, with Covid and the rules seeming to go away now, that's what we're wanting to get back to is getting our women back in for groups."
She added: "I think they loved it. We also had our music therapist on the bus so there was a sing song, we provided refreshments. We also created a notice board where the women could share their own tips and tricks for helping and aiding mental health. The feeling of the day was that it was really successful."
Shelly hopes it can become a more regular occurrence. She said: "Yeah we would absolutely love to do that. For us at the moment, for the Glen Clova project anyway, obviously putting on the bus requires funding.
"So, we would love to do it certainly more regularly, we just need the funding to be able to do that."
