Batman and Robin gear up to pay tribute to rescue heroes
George lost his sister-in-law and her husband last Easter when their plane came down. Oban Mountain Rescue were involved in the search and tomorrow - George and his dog will walk from Tiree to Dundee to fundraise for them.
More than a year after a small plane crash devastated their family, a Dundee man is saying thank you to those who helped in the search.
George Bruce lost his sister-in-law, Dr Margaret-Ann Rous, and her husband, David, last April when their plane came down. They had been flying from the city to spend the weekend with family on Tiree.
On Thursday, November 20, George and his dog will walk 180 miles from Tiree to Dundee, dressed as Batman and Robin, to fundraise for the Oban Mountain Rescue, who were first on the scene.
George said: “When Margaret-Ann and Dave were flying home up to the Isle of Tiree, the plane got into difficulty and resulted in a fatal crash.
“Oban Mountain Rescue Team were first response and had the gruelling task of first identifying the site and dealing with the aftermath to which family and friends of Margaret Ann and Dave will always be in debt.
“I decided to take on this challenge to promote and show our appreciation of all of the hard and sometimes very sensitive work carried out by the team at Oban Mountain Rescue.
“As someone who doesn’t walk long distance very much, this is going to be a very mental and physical challenge, however it doesn’t come close to what the team at Oban Mountain Rescue Team had to face.”
