Following reports yesterday, 24th July, of an injured climber at the local cliffs, Arbroath RNLI launched both of their lifeboats.

The HM Coastguard call for assistance came in at around 12:50pm when the all-weather and inshore lifeboats soon made their way to the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, close to the Needle’s E’e area of the cliffs, members of the inshore lifeboat crew went ashore and administered on scene casualty care before preparing the injured climber for evacuation.

The climber was rescued by HM Coastguard helicopter which was deemed as the safest method due to the location and conditions. The casualty was winched aboard Rescue 151 from Inverness before being transferred to land ambulance and taken to Ninewells Hospital for further treatment.

Arbroath RNLI coxswain, Michael Marr, said: “The location of the casualty and sea conditions provided a bit of a challenge to our crew today, however with the assistance of our HM Coastguard colleagues we were able to ensure a positive outcome was achieved.”

The RNLI say they have no further information on the condition of the casualty.
