An apple a day celebrates the harvest the right way

The first Community Harvest event will take place in the Dundee Botanic Garden with a full day of events.

The Community Harvest Day will celebrate the work done by the Urban Orchard project as well as run workshops including a fresh apple press to make apple juice.

The event at Dundee Botanic Garden promises a full day of family friendly fun with book-readings, art workshops, as well as performances by dancers, musicians, and Qi Gong's practitioners with the day concluded with th planting of a Victoria Plum tree.

Event Organiser Jonathon Baxter said: "Our primary focus is to raise wareness of food sustainability and to helpcommunities engage in positive action to that end. The Community Harvest and celebration at the Botanic Garden is a fantastic way to bring everyone together to mark the success of the past few years.

"Many of the orchard groups will be contributing and members of the public are welcome to find out more about our work or just to join in the fun.

"The Community Harvest and workshops celebrate Dundee as an orchard city. In addtion to the planting of orchards, what's really being celebrated are the people and projects that support social and environmental wellbeing in the city."

The Community Harvest day is hosted by the Urban Orchard project who have spent the last three years planting 25 orchards across the city in schools, community centres, and museums have gotten involved in the planting project.

The success of the energy efficient building within the gardens will also be promoted.

Botanic Garden Curator Alisdair Hood added: "we are excited to be hosting this event and to be able to invite people along to celebrate this wonderful project. The Botanic Garden is a proud partner of the Dundee Urban Orchard project and we look forward to continuing success in future years."
