Appeal for witnesses following serious assault in St Andrews
Police in Fife are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted outside a takeaway in St Andrews at the weekend. The attack happened at around 2:20am on Sunday, August 7th, outside the Dervish takeaway on Bell Street. The 20-year-old victim had been on a night out with friends and was leaving the Vic bar in St Mary’s Place when he was involved in a conversation with an unknown male. The situation escalated into an argument, which led to the group walking away from the man and heading towards the takeaway. A short time later the suspect reappeared with several others and he assaulted the victim by punching him in the head and body before running away. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. Local officers are carrying out inquiries in an effort to trace the suspect and are now seeking the assistance of the public.
The suspect is described as having a pale complexion, slim build, aged between 18 and 20 years old and around 5ft 4ins tall. He was wearing a baseball cap backwards, skinny jeans and a zipped hoodie. Detective Sergeant Paula Warrender of Levenmouth CID said: “I want to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the assailant or who witnessed this violent attack. “Similarly, anyone who had been within the Vic bar around the time of this incident and who has information relevant to our ongoing investigation is asked to contact police immediately.” Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
