A Montrose restaurant is encouraging customers to ditch their phones at the dinner table in return for money off their meals.

7 Sins gives customers the option to get 10% off their bill if they store their mobile in a locked box.

Owner Scott Learmouth said: "I see the restaurant full of customers but there's no atmosphere, everyone's on their phones not talking or interacting with each other.

"If they take part they put their phones in the box and lock it up.

"They keep hold of the key and we take the box away into an area that's visible to them so they can see no ones tampering with their phones."

The offer was launched on Monday and is available to customers of all ages.

Mr Learmouth says spending time eating with his family and friends gave him the idea.

"I'd go out for lunch with my best pal and I'd get ignored, he tends to spend 90% of his time on his phone," he said.

"We're launching this campaign to simply get people talking again."
