Angus Council is seeking to hire an additional 40 teachers and 10 support staff to help prepare for an August return for Schools.

The temporary contracts for the first term would mitigate the risk of 69 staff being unable to return for face to face lessons due to shielding.

As things stand restrictions for shielding staff entering the workplace should be lifted by the end of July, but the recruitment drive will provide cover if this period should be extended.

It's thought the hiring would cost around 1 million pounds.

The council report outlines a desire for a Scottish Government grant to foot the bill, but failing that it would be paid for through the council's finances.

The proposals will be discussed on Tuesday 23rd June at the Special Arrangements Committee.
