Angus Council Leader will have "harsh" words if region isn't moved down to level 2
Infection rates have continued to drop in the region, with the number of cases per population around half that of neighbouring Dundee
The leader of Angus Council's confident coronavirus restrictions will be eased in the region this afternoon.
The number of cases per population there is now around half that of neighbouring Dundee.
Councillor David Fairweather's optimistic after speaking with government ministers.
"I had worries that we were being treated alongside Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Fife. But I had asked that we be treated as a separate authority and that has certainly been taken on board by the Scottish Government," he said.
"There is no doubt in my mind that we should be in level 2."
Latest figures show the seven day positive rate in Angus is at 56.8 per 100,000. This compares to 107.8 in Dundee, 103.3 in Fife and 92.8 in Perth and Kinross.
Last week the First Minister made no changes to the tiered system but did tell us to expect a more extensive review today.
Councillor Fairweather said he won't mince his words if Angus remains in level 3.
"I believe they recommendations were taken on board. If they are not taken on board and we are left in level 3, I will certainly have something very harsh to say," he added.
The whole of Tayside and Fife is currently in level 3.
