All professional and grassroots football in Scotland has been suspended due to coronavirus.

It includes all this weekend's fixtures - despite a ban on large gatherings north of the border not coming in until Monday.

That means Dundee's playoff battle with Dunfermline Athletic will not go ahead while city rivals United will also not travel to Greenock Morton.

Football finance expert Neil Patey believes this could be costly for a number of Scottish clubs.

"Any on the day ticket sales, any match day sponsorship, any other match day revenue is hugely important to Scottish clubs," he said

"Were that to not come in for the rest of the season, that is certainly going to be a significant financial hit for Scottish football clubs."

Dundee first team coach Dave Mackay thinks the decision could hit the club's pockets.

"Financially it might have a big impact. Obviously it wouldn't be great playing in empty stadiums as well from a player point of a view," he said.

"You just have to follow the guidelines set out and if sports has to shut down for a little while you just have to get on with it."

Other big matches to be affected include the Old Firm Derby at Ibrox on Sunday.
