Alfredo Morelos not scoring enough goals, says Steven Gerrard
The Colombian striker has five goals from 15 appearances this season
Steven Gerrard says Alfredo Morelos hasn't been good enough in front of goal this season as he hunts down his 100th Rangers strike.
The Colombian forward has scored just five goals so far this term - with only two of those coming in the Scottish Premiership.
Ibrox boss Gerrard says his side need to be more clinical with the chances they're creating this season.
He's also calling on his talisman to brush up inside the box if he wants to replicate his record from previous campaigns.
He said: "Five goals in 15 games is not enough.
"It's not just him, we need to score more goals. All our strikers.
"We're at Rangers here and with the chances we're creating I'd expect the guy who has played the majority of the minutes as the number nine to have more than five in 15.
"They're stats we need to improve on moving forward. We need to keep providing the service and the chances for Alfredo to get more goals.
"If you look at previous number nines and Alfredo's record in other seasons it has been better.
"I'm sure Alfredo himself, as well as myself and the coaching staff in terms of our attacking units, want to get more goals".
Despite being just one strike away from hitting 100 for Rangers, Steven Gerrard says the pressure of that shouldn't be getting to Morelos.
Gerrard thinks the goals will start to flow again if he keeps things simple.
He added: “It’s quite obvious he’s not in his best of form but he’s still getting in the right places and his all round game is still okay. It’s only a matter of time before the goals come for Alfredo.
"He’s sitting on 99 so I’m sure he’ll be desperate to get to 100.
"If I've got any advice for him, he just need to focus on keep getting in the right places and areas and he'll absolutely smash 100 goals in no time.
"He shouldn't really overthink it. All he should be thinking is 'what can I do and what can I offer the team to be the best version of myself?'.
"We're a team that create a lot of chances so it's only a matter of time before that record comes, so he shouldn't overthink it".
