Alex Smith MBE announces retirement after 60 years
The Falkirk technical director won Scottish Cups with both St Mirren and Aberdeen
Scottish football legend Alex Smith MBE has announced he will retire from the game at the end of this season.
The Falkirk technical director will step down from his role at the club at the age of 78, and plans to emigrate to Australia to be with his family.
Smith started his playing career in 1958, turning out for the likes of Stenhousemuir and Stirling Albion before having to retire early through injury.
He turned his hand to management and had successful spells with both St Mirren and Aberdeen.
The Buddies won the Scottish Cup in 1987 under his leadership, before he moved to Aberdeen and won the League Cup and Scottish Cup double in the 1990/91 season.
