Airport Security Staff To Strike

Security workers at an airport group are to hold a two-day strike from midday in a dispute over pay, holidays and sick pay.

Around 120 staff in the Prospect union at security company AMSL, which services Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), will be involved in the industrial action.

HIAL said that all airports will operate their usual opening times during the 48-hour period, and all scheduled services will operate.

There will be no scheduled services to and from Dundee, however the airport will be open as usual for general aviation traffic such as private or chartered flights.

HIAL advised passengers to arrive 15-20 minutes earlier than usual for their flight and to limit the amount of hand or check-in luggage they take to the airport.

The strike comes after talks last week between unions and management ended without agreement.

HIAL managing director Inglis Lyon said: Whilst we are disappointed that the industrial action is taking place, we have been working hard to develop contingencies to enable the airports to remain open and minimise the amount of disruption for our passengers.

All Dundee passengers with flights booked from this afternoon through to Thursday morning are advised to contact the Loganair passenger contact centre on 01496 302 022 to rebook their flights.

HIAL is owned by Scottish ministers and operates airports in Inverness, Dundee, Campbeltown, Islay, Tiree, Barra, Benbecula, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Kirkwall and Wick.
