A university student from Dundee is sharing her experience of loneliness to help other youngsters who feel withdrawn.

Evie Connell found herself isolated after moving to the city from Gourock.

She was commuting to her old university at the time and struggled to make friends with her coursemates.

The 22-year-old thinks social media posts from her peers made her feel even more alone.

"To keep up with everyone posting that they've clicked with all these new people, other people want to be like 'look at me, I've done the same thing, I'm fine'," she said.

"You don't want to turn round and admit you've got no one.

"It's quite hard as an adult to make friends, it's not as simple as when you were a kid.

"In primary school someone could say 'I like the colour pink' and you could say 'I like the colour pink too', and then your best pals.

"As an adult it doesn't quite work like that."

Evie made the decision to drop out of her course and move to Abertay University.

"I ended up overhauling everything. I transferred universities so it was smaller and closer to where I was living.
