300 Pigs Removed From Monikie Farm After Fire

Published 1st Dec 2015

Fire crews have been called out to a fire within a steading at a farm in Monikie, near Dundee.

They were called out to the blaze at 11.59am on Monday after a large number of hay bales caught fire.

Two pumps from Kingsway East in Dundee were initially sent to the scene and they were followed shortly afterwards by two from Balmossie.

The main concern for crews were the two adjacent buildings, a house and another steading which contained around 300 pigs.

The pigs were removed from that building and taken to a safe area and firefighters used four main jets and two ground monitors as covering jets to protect both buildings and a nearby bio-gas plant.

No one was injured but crew are continuing to dampen the area down.

A digger will be brought in to spread the fire load to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. The steading itself was completely destroyed by fire.
