A total of 41 new temporary 20mph zones will be introduced across Perth and Kinross.

It’s part of the Spaces for People project which supports active travel during lockdown – they’ve also been created to improve road safety and allow safe physical distancing.

Work to install the new road signs will get underway in the coming weeks.

The scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and offers support to councils.

In turn, this allows local authorities to bring in measures which make it safer for people to walk and cycle - as well as exercise while socially distancing.

Perth and Kinross Council says the 20mph speed limits are being introduced in areas of 12 towns where there is a high density of pedestrian and vehicle movements.

Simialrly, the 29 villages affected have been chosen as they have limited or no footways – which has resulted in pedestrians and vehicles having to share road space.
