11-year-old boy attacked by three youngsters near Angus shopping centre

Police are looking to track down a group of youngsters who punched and kicked a boy outside an Arbroath shopping centre.

It happened around 8pm last Friday near the Abbeygate Centre.

The 11-year-old was knocked off his bike before being attacked on the ground.

The trio are believed to be 11 to 13-year old boys.

A Police Scotland statement reads: "We are appealing for information about an incident which happened at the drop-off point outside the Abbeygate Shopping Centre and McColl’s, Arbroath, between 8pm – 8:30pm on Friday 17th January.

"An 11 year old boy was allegedly knocked off his bike and assaulted by a group of three other boys aged between 11 and 13.

"He was repeatedly punched and kicked while on the ground until another group of around ten teenagers intervened to help him. Fortunately he was not badly injured.

"We are following a positive line of inquiry, however we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed all or part of this incident, and in particular we would like to speak with members of the group who came to the victim’s aid and prevented him being badly hurt."
