An investigation is underway after between 80-100 young people were involved in a large disturbance in Broughty Ferry beach yesterday evening.

Police were alerted to the incident at the the beach just before 7 o'clock.

A 15-year-old boy suffered injuries to his face and a police car was left vandalised following officers response to the incident.

Tayside Police are reassuring the public that reports of stabbing circulating on social media are incorrect.

Patrols being stepped up in response

Police say that residents can expect an increase in police presence over the coming days in a bid to provide reassurance and curb antisocial behaviour.

Chief Inspector Ross Fitzgerald said: “We want everyone to enjoy these open spaces safely. Disruptive and criminal behaviour is not acceptable.

"I can assure you that work is ongoing to ensure those involved are located and identified, with anyone involved in criminality being dealt with robustly and charged in respect of any criminal behaviour committed.

"The vandalism to the police vehicle now renders that resource inoperable, depriving the local community of important resources as we continue our efforts to keep our local communities safe.

"Parents are encouraged to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing in the evenings.

"Members of the public will see an increased police presence in the Broughty Ferry area as local officers are supported by those from national divisions, in order to provide reassurance and deter any further acts of antisocial behaviour."

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact Police Scotland.
