Every now and again, This Morning produces an interview that is absolute TV GOLD and we reckon this moment with comedian Barry Humphries could be up there as one of the funniest ever.

On Friday’s (26th November) episode of This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, viewers were left "in stitches" after 87-year-old guest Barry Humphries, famous for his comedy and alter egos Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, mistook Dermot for Phillip Schofield.

In the middle of the chat, Barry took the time to congratulate Dermot on his “courage last year when he came out and told us about his sexuality”.

Alison and Dermot were left completely in hysterics, with Dermot awkwardly saying: “I’ll pass that on to the gentleman who is here Monday to Thursday.”

Barry was obviously talking about Phillip Schofield, who presents the show alongside Holly Willoughby Monday to Thursday, who came out as gay on the show in February 2020.

Hundreds of viewers took to Twitter to comment on the moment, with may calling it ‘the best of the year' and 'proper comedy'.

One viewer tweeted: 'I was absolutely wetting myself laughing at this.'

Another said: 'Barry Humphries is the best tonic on a cold Friday, my sides are sore from laughing 😭😂.'

Fans of the show couldn’t work out whether it was a genuine mistake or a hilarious joke.

A viewer commented: 'Lmao , people on Twitter actually thinking Barry Humphries confused Dermot with Phillip …….. that was the joke.'

One more added: '#ThisMorning Barry knows exactly who Dermot is , he’s still got it 😂.'

Barry also left viewers 'crying with laughter' as he entered the interview with tissue round his neck from being in the make-up chair.

When Alison pointed it out to him, he said: "They put me in make-up, but I didn't need any."
