He shot to fame when he appeared in Channel 4 soap Brookside back in 2000, but Ray Quinn is probably more well known for his stint on The X Factor in 2006, where he finished runner-up on the show behind the amazing Leona Lewis.

But now, it looks like Liverpudlian Ray is returning to his acting roots as he's only gone and landed a role in Hollyoaks.

Ray, who is now 30-years-old, will join the cast in the coming months as Jonny, and befriend Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) as he continues his hate campaign against Dr Maalik.

Speaking about his role on the show, Ray said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Hollyoaks and returning back to Lime Pictures where Brookside was also made which is like family to me, it’s fantastic walking back into the building after 20 years.

“All of the cast I’ve met so far have been incredible, and it’s great to be working with Kieron as well who is extremely talented. Jonny is a complex character, there will definitely be challenging storylines but I’m excited.”

Ray's involvement in the soap was revealed when Channel 4 bosses dropped the dramatic looking winter trailer.

Ray appeared in Brookside between 2000-2003, where he played the role of tormented child Anthony Murray.

During his three years on the soap, Ray was involved in a number of high profile storylines, which included both bullying and murder. At the time, the storyline which involved his character killing became one of the most shocking storylines in British television history.

After appearing on a number of other TV shows in the early noughties, Ray auditioned for The X Factor in 2006, impressing both the judges and audiences at home with his voice.

Despite losing out to Leona Lewis, Ray went on to sign a record deal with Simon Cowell's label, and later released his debut album 'Doing It My Way'. However, in 2007, it was announced that Ray had been dropped from the label.

After this he went on to appear in a number of stage shows, including the likes of Grease, Aladdin, Dirty Dancing and Peter Pan, and even appeared as contestant on Dancing On Ice!
