A same-sex series of Love Island has been rumoured for a while now, and it sounds like 2018 might be the year we finally see lesbian and gay couples join the show and cause some drama in the Majorca villa.

Bosses faced a bit of a backlash for including exclusively straight contestants last year and are reportedly keen for a more inclusive series with members of the LGBTQ+ community being cast this time around.

Speaking to the Daily Star Online, a source said, "Love Island was undoubtedly the biggest reality show this year, it had everyone talking. Even people who weren't watching the show still heard about it.

"The main thing they came under fire for was sex on TV, which people have now started to accept, so come next series people won't really care about that."

This all comes after an insider hinted we could be getting a same-sex Love Island* * spin-off last year, telling the Daily Star, "The heterosexual couples this year have been amazing entertainment.

"But there is a feeling among producers that there could be more representation of the LGBT community.

"In 2017, they know they can’t go on forever pretending the gay community doesn’t exist. It’s only a matter of time."

Whilst the show's 2017 winners, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay are no longer together, the 2017 series gave us a number of new relationships to swoon over that are still going strong today.

Despite their issues in the villa, Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood remain a couple, Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville seem to be more loved up than ever, and Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt often share cute photos together on social media.

But, perhaps most shockingly, Dom Lever and Jess Shears surprised fans when they announced their engagement last year.

Speaking about the big moment back in September, Jess said, "It happened the night before the TV Choice Awards. We were staying in a lovely apartment in London."

Very romantic! 💍

If you fancy finding love on TV, applications for Love Island 2018 are open NOW, and since they've already received a record number of potential contestants, you might wanna get a move on.
