Hamish Gaman, who is paired with actress Faye Brookes, has been forced to quit Dancing on Ice after sustaining a serious hand injury in training.

The news comes after Dancing On Ice bosses confirmed on Monday 15 February that the show would be postponed for one week, meaning there would be no live show on Sunday 21st February.

Hamish updated fans on the status of his injury on Twitter on Tuesday, he wrote, 'I've been told I don't need surgery on my finger... I'll just be sporting a bling splint for a few weeks.'

However, ITV announced on Tuesday afternoon that Hamish would be withdrawing from the competition.

A spokesperson for ITV said, 'Sadly we can confirm that Hamish Gaman, who has been partnered with Faye Brookes, has had to withdraw from the competition. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him the very best as he takes some time out to allow his injury to fully heal.'

Hamish's celebrity partner Faye will continue in the competition with professional Matt Evers.

Speaking to our friends at Heat Radio on Monday, Hamish described how he had snapped a tendon in his hand on Friday during training prior to last weekend’s performance.

He said, “Faye wasn’t fully aware but I snapped a tendon in my hand and I was advised before the show that I’m putting my finger at risk for the rest of my life here.

“It’s one of those scenarios where there was a lot of people dropping out of the show and I love this show so much and I didn’t want to let the team down.”

Hamish explained how the pair had to adapt their routine last minute to accommodate the injury so he could continue with the performance.

He added, “They strapped up my hand so I could get through the show. We had to make a lot of changes to the routine last minute, we re-choreographed the whole second-half.

“Faye did incredible to learn the routine last minute. We had to change all of our lifts because of my hand, as I couldn’t do certain movements.”

“It is never easy for someone to learn new choreography and it is very dangerous to do things that aren’t ready anyway but then to suddenly make these huge changes last minute, Faye did so well.”

Hamish added that he would be visiting a surgeon who would assess whether he required surgery and ultimately if he could continue in the competition.

He said, “Unfortunately I’m in a situation where I may have to withdraw if I need surgery.

“I would be heart broken, Faye has worked so hard.”

He had earlier posted on Instagram that he could continue with the competition, but show bosses have now confirmed that Hamish will not continue in this year's Dancing on Ice.

Hamish is paired with former Coronation Street star Faye Brookes and the couple have been scoring consistently highly with the judges and topped the leaderboard in week one of the competition.

On Sunday, the pair took to the rink and performed a routine to Bruno Mars’ song ‘Marry You’ whilst dressed as Kate Middleton and Prince William for the Valentine’s themed episode.

The pair scored 32 out of 40 from the judges but failed to top the leaderboard. Both Hamish and Faye were visibly upset with the judges’ comments and were reduced to tears.

Dancing on Ice judge John Barrowman said, “I know you know this yourself; you're a better skater than this.”

Judge and professional skater Jayne Torvill added, “"We just know you can do more. Give us more, please."

Faye and Hamish both started to cry as presenter Phillip Schofield asked them to comment.

Faye said, “We’re trying. We're doing our best and I will take on every single note that you give me and we'll come back next week and smash it, hopefully, if we're still here."
