Game of Thrones gives us a glimpse into season 8 with dramatic posters
Not long to wait!
Last updated 12th Apr 2019
Game of Thrones fans are chomping at the bit to feast their eyes on the upcoming, final season of the show that's captivated the world. The story of the Iron Throne, and all of the characters who want to be the one to sit on it, will be coming to an end as the eighth series has been announced as the last.
After the events of the last season saw SPOILER ALERT viewers discover that Kit Harington's character, Jon Snow, actually has a stronger claim to the throne than that of Daenerys Targaryen, fans are wringing their hands over what will happen when he finds out that titbit of info - which could happen in episode one, due to air in the US this Sunday (14th April) and in the UK on Monday (15th April).
And although the cast and crew have kept understandably tight-lipped over the upcoming season, they've now slowly been releasing posters to promote the show, which show each character sitting on the throne - and they are quite something.
Be warned - there are a lot of SPOILERS from here on out - so this is a huge SPOILER ALERT.
Daenerys Targaryen
Daenerys had possibly the strongest claim to the throne - that was, until we discovered Jon Snow's true identity. But will she triumph? After all, she does have dragons on her side...
Jon Snow
He's devoted himself to getting his now-lover Daenerys on the throne, but it's only a matter of time before Jon Snow discovers his true identity, which puts him at a stronger place to take the throne himself. Will he stay loyal, or will he claim his birthright?
Samwell Tarly
Jon's best pal Samwell doesn't appear to have any ambition or agenda in becoming the next bum to sit on the Iron Throne. But nothing surprises us in this show anymore, so we'll just have to wait and see.
Arya Stark
Arya Stark has had to find her own way in the world after being separated from her family. But could her incredible sword skills mean she ends up on the Iron Throne in the end?
Sansa Stark
Arya's sister Sansa has had her eye on the throne since day one, when she dreamed of marrying Joffrey Baratheon (EUGH). She's now taken on the role of head of the Stark household, and does seem to be relishing it. Could her ambition grow to these great heights?
Bran Stark
It seems doubtful that the youngest Stark would want the throne for himself, considering the fact that he's now the Three-Eyed Raven. But who knows what could happen in this crazy show.
Tyrion Lannister
After leaving Westeros, Tyrion came across Daenerys Targaryen and vowed to help her return to the throne and overthrow his sister, Cersei Lannister. But could it all be a ploy, and could Tyrion actually want the throne for himself?
Cersei Lannister
As she's currently sat on the throne, it seems unlikely that Tyrion's sister Cersei will still have control over the kingdom by the end of the series - especially as she's pregnant with her brother Jaime's baby. But she's incredibly tenacious, so who knows.
Jaime Lannister
Tyrion and Cersei's brother Jaime - who also happens to be Cersei's lover and father of her unborn child - doesn't appear to have any desire to take control of the kingdoms. But even he seemed slightly unnerved by Cersei's determination in the last season, so will he be the one to take her down, considering he's her only weakness?
Theon Greyjoy
Theon has been devoted to Daenerys, but after his past behaviour, many viewers wouldn't put it past him to betray her and try and claim the throne for himself - after all, he was heir to the throne of the Iron Islands.
Euron Greyjoy
Theon's uncle Euron has proven himself to be a right dastardly character, and will seemingly stop at nothing to gain power.
Melisandre
The Red Priestess may be on Team Daenerys, but ultimately she's devoted to The Lord of Light. Will she be moved to try and take the throne for herself?
Ser Davos Seaworth
Ser Davos is backing Jon Snow at the moment, and by association, Daenerys as well. But could he team up with Melisandre if anything happened to those two?
Ser Jorah Mormont
Ser Jorah is completely in love with Daenerys, and would never do anything to usurp her. However, if something were to happen to her - and let's face it, they could ALL end up dead by the end - he could feel moved to avenge her.
Missandei
Similarly, Daenerys' handmaiden Missandei might also feel compelled to try and carry out her wishes, should anything happen to her.
Grey Worm
Again, Grey Worm could step up and fight the Daenerys fight if she were to fail in her quest.
Lord Varys
It's well known that Lord Varys is always looking out for himself - so despite the fact that he's been secretly working to get Daenerys on the throne, could he try and seize power himself?
Sandor Clegane AKA The Hound
It doesn't seem likely that The Hound would be interested in seizing power, having become rather apathetic towards the monarchy after leaving the service of horrible Joffrey. But if he gets the opportunity, who knows what could happen?
Brienne of Tarth
Brienne has vowed to serve Sansa Stark as her guard, and could be a handy ally in any ambitions that Sansa has in becoming Queen. It doesn't seem like she wants the throne for herself, but everything could change in season eight.
The Night King
If the Night King gets his hands on the throne, it could truly be a terrifying climax to the series. But he does have a dragon on his side now, and we know the show bosses love to shock us, so...
