Duchess of Cambridge to read CBeebies Bedtime Story for Children's Mental Health Week
This is the first time a Royal has read a Bedtime Story
CBeebies Bedtime Stories are famed for their host of celebrities making an appearance on the show, last year Ed Sheeran, and Ryan Reynolds were just a couple of celebrities who read the stories. Now, the Duchess of Cambridge has been announced as the first Royal to read a story and we can't wait to see her on the show.
Announced on Instagram on Tuesday morning (8th February), the official account wrote: 'Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, is to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story to mark Children’s Mental Health Week 💙 The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson and @paulhoward20 will air 6.50pm, 13th Feb then stream on @bbciplayer🦉'.
The Royal's official Twitter account also shared the same picture saying: 'What better way to mark #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek than with a CBeebies Bedtime Story.'
Of course this exciting news was met by a lot of comments from fans saying they couldn't wait to see the Duchess read the kids' book, one fan wrote: '😱Who on Earth is responsible for booking the bedtime story readers?! They are doing a phenomenal job! I’m in awe everytime a new one is announced! 👏' (sic) with another writing: 'This is wonderful! ✨👑 ✨How exciting! 🦉'.
Another fan commented on the choice of book saying: 'It’s one our favourite books! 🙌 how exciting!'.
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark is a book about Plop, the Baby Barn Owl who says the "dark is nasty" and won't go hunting with his parents. However, in time Plop is encouraged to grow in confidence and overcome what he's scared of.
Speaking about the Duchess' appearance on the show, Patricia Hidalgo, director of BBC Children's and Education said: "I couldn't be more proud to have the Duchess read a CBeebies Bedtime Story as we mark the 20th anniversary of our CBeebies and CBBC channels.
"It's such a special and relevant tale and perfectly represents this years' Children's Mental Health week theme. I can't wait to see her deliver her own take on such a classic story and I'm sure our audience can't either."
We can't wait to hear the book brought to life by the Duchess on Sunday evening.
Children's Mental Health Week which runs from 7th - 13th February and this year's theme is Growing Together.
