Rihanna made a surprise appearance at Desert Trip, an American festival known to many by its affectionate nickname 'Oldchella'.

The Barbadian joined musical legend Paul McCartney on stage as he headlined the Saturday night of the festival.

Although both singers regularly include their song 'FourFiveSeconds' in their sets, this was the first time they have performed it together since the 2015 Grammys.

As the band started to play 'FourFiveSeconds' Rihanna appeared singing from the side of the stage wearing a baggy pinstrip suit with her waist-length hair blowing in the desert wind.

The festival which is known for its grey-haired headliners - this year consisting of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and The Who - warmly welcomed the much younger singer.

As Rihanna left the stage Paul joked, "We finally found someone under the age of 50".
