Robbie Williams On Course For 1000th UK No.1 Album
'Swings Both Ways' is topping the Midweek Chart
Robbie Williams is on course to score the UK’s 1000th Official Number 1 album with ‘Swings Both Ways’.
The Take That star’s second swing record is currently leading the race for this Sunday’s top spot ahead of Jake Bugg’s second album ‘Shangri La’ and JLS's fittingly greatest hits collection ‘Goodbye’.
If Robbie holds onto his strong lead when the final chart is revealed on Sunday, it will be his 11th solo chart-topper – equalling the late-great Elvis Presley’s chart tally.
Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Chief Executive, said: “The race is on – and it is fitting that Robbie Williams is in the lead to become the 1000th Official Number 1 Album.
“His new album Swings Both Ways echoes the very first Number 1 album, Frank Sinatra’s Songs For Swingin’ Lovers – and Robbie is a genuine legend of the Official Albums Chart.
“But there is a way to go until the winner passes the finish line and is unveiled this Sunday, it is by no means over yet.”
As it currently stands, the artists with the most UK Number One album are as follows:
- The Beatles (15) 2. Madonna (12) 3. Elvis Presley (11) 4. Robbie Williams (10) 5. The Rolling Stones (10) 6. U2 (10) 7. Michael Jackson (9) 8. ABBA (9) 9. Bruce Springsteen (9) 10. David Bowie (9)
