Lorde says she has written “a lot of amazing stuff” for the follow-up to her 2013 debut album ‘Pure Heroine.’

The 18-year-old New Zealander – real name Ella Yelich O'Connor – says she has already written lyrics for her new material and is now going to concentrate on laying down some music.

"For me I have to kind of write a project lyrically before I attack it musically," she told MTV. "So I've written a lot of amazing stuff and I'm just tentatively starting to make it music."

Quizzed about when the new material might surface, Lorde refused to be a prisoner to time.

"I have no timeline,” she added. “I really don't care. You have to be a different person and write a different record."

Helped by the colossal hit single ‘Royals’, arguably the biggest tune of 2013, Lorde’s debut album was a big success upon its release selling 1.5million copies in America and peaking at number four on the UK album chart.

Since its release, the incredibly talented teenager has played festivals across the globe, performed with the surviving members of Nirvana, curated the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and released the single ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’.
