Leona Lewis "I Recorded 'We Found Love' First"
She says her version of Rihanna's hit is 'better'
Leona Lewis has revealed that she recorded a version of Rihanna’s colossal hit ‘We Found Love’ before the Bajan star.
The Hackney born songstress said she laid down vocals with the track’s producer and writer Calvin Harris in 2011 but abandoned plans to release it.
27-year-old Leona said: "I worked with Calvin and we recorded 'We Found Love' but he went touring with Rihanna and she ended up releasing it.
"I didn't commit to it because I wanted 'Trouble' to be my first single, so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna.
"It was the same version and production but mine's better."
Asked by the Daily Star whether she would ever leak the track, Leona responded: "I still have the recording but I'd never leak it. That's so unprofessional.
"There are so many songs I've recorded, only to hear other people singing them. It happens all the time. It was a bit annoying to see how big a hit it was around the world but if I'd released it maybe it wouldn't have done as well."
Released last September, ‘We Found Love’ hit number one in 25 countries, including the US and UK, and has sold over 6.5million copies around the globe.
Leona’s current single ‘Trouble’ charted at number seven on Sunday. Her third studio album ‘Glassheart’ is out now.
