Girls Aloud Confirm Split After UK Tour Ends
They thank fans for their "love and support"
Girls Aloud have confirmed that they’ve called it a day after 11 years together.
Moments after the Cheryl, Nadine, Sarah, Nicola and Kimberley came off stage at the Liverpool Echo Arena, they posted this message to fans:
“Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade.
“It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots.”
Cheryl Cole also tweeted immediately after the sold-out show: “To the people that haven't been able to make it, for what ever reason, we feel your support regardless and have done for 10 yrs."
Last night’s gig was the final leg of the 20-date Ten: ‘The Hits Tour’ in support of Girls Aloud’s second greatest hits album ‘Ten’.
The compilation album was a return to the fray after the girls took a three-year hiatus to pursue other projects following the release of ‘Out Of Control’ in 2009.
Girls Aloud formed on reality TV show Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2002 and stormed straight in at number one with their debut single ‘Sound of the Underground.’
Between 2002 and 2009 they had 20 consecutive top 10 hits and sold over 4.3million singles throughout their career. They also won a BRIT Award for their single ‘The Promise’ in 2009.
