Daft Punk To Release Fourth Album In 2013
They've penned a new record deal
Daft Punk have penned a new deal with Columbia Records and will release their fourth studio album this spring.
The Parisian androids – Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter – have parted company with Virgin Records after 17 years.
The duo have been working with electro pioneer Giorgio Moroder (the man behind Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’), funk legend and Chic lynchpin Nile Rodgers and influential songwriter Paul Williams on the as-yet-untitled record.
Although no concrete release date has been set for the follow-up to 2005’s ‘Human After All’, it’s widely expected that the album will be released this spring.
With the festival rumour mill in full flow, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that Daft Punk will be playing any major festivals.
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis ruled them out yesterday evening, tweeting: “They might be doing other stuff but they're not playing here. Onwards....”
Bestival head honcho Rob da Bank also told eFestivals earlier this month: "There's all kinds of crazy rumours flying about at the moment about Daft Punk at Coachella, and The Rolling Stones playing Glastonbury. We got told months ago that Daft Punk were definitely not touring next year.”
Daft Punk released their acclaimed Tron Legacy soundtrack in 2010 and in December made a high-profile cameo of sorts on The Simpsons when character Disco Stu got dressed up as them.
