Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne have been named as the top-earning members of One Direction.

It’s reported that Liam and Louis’s recently forged songwriting partnership has earned them an extra cut of profits – the pair apparently earn up to 9% of each song's royalties.

On One Direction’s 2013 album ‘Midnight Memories’, for example, Louis co-wrote nine of its 14 songs, while Liam teamed up on eight tracks including the album title track and ‘Story of My Life’.

In stark contrast, Harry co-wrote four songs, Niall only contributed to two and Zayn lent his song writing skills to just one.

This songwriting pairing is set to continue with their fourth album, as Liam explained to Bizarre: "Louis and I have a little partnership going on. We've been pretty keen to start writing straight away.

"I've been in the studio already, it's been going really well. Learning how to write is the best way of ensuring your career has longevity and that you have control over it.

"I really think the next album is going to be a game-changer for us. I'm excited."

Since they formed in late 2010, One Direction have earned an estimated £100million in record, merchandise and ticket sales plus other commercial ventures.

Louis made his debut for his boyhood team Doncaster Rovers last week. Check out photos and a full report right here.
