The Weeknd overcame stage fright with the help of his fans
He recently performed on The X Factor.
Canadian singer The Weeknd has revealed he used to suffer from stage fright before he became famous.
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, told Billboard magazine in an interview, “I used to be very nervous, especially about performing on TV.”
He went on to say, “It’s usually just nerves when somebody sounds bad. People who become famous for singing are usually pretty good at singing.”
The 26-year-old singer explained that when he started out he didn't have any fans and found it difficult to perform, "I was just some indie R&B singer and I had to prove myself. You could hear a pin drop in some of those TV stations."
The singer, who has won countless Grammys, Billboard and MTV Music awards recalled his first ever US gig at Coachella in 2012 where he admitted his nerves got the better of him.
“I looked at the tape and said, ‘I have to do better. This is my life."
Now when he takes to the stage he hears fans scream his name, which is a great feeling for him, saying,
"I know I’ll be fine. They want me to do well."
The Weeknd's current single 'Starboy' is in the UK top 10 and he performed it at The X Factor final over the weekend.
