I never expected to be a Belieber by the end of 2015
From non-believer to a Belieber, in a year.
Here are three words I never thought I’d be saying at the end of 2015: I’m a Belieber.
I don’t know how it happened. It caught me completely by surprise.
Thing is, I’d never been a fan before but his comeback was a bit different. ‘What Do You Mean’ was catchy and I started toe-tapping to it… Before I knew it, it was too late. I had started singing it in the kitchen, in the shower… Who thought panpipes would work so well in a pop song?
I thought it was something I could manage to be honest. I’d secretly listen to it, thinking I wouldn’t be bothered by anything else he released.
Wrong. I fell in love with ‘Love Yourself’. You know when you can’t stop listening to a song? This was it. This was my song of 2015.
I’d put it on repeat because hearing it once wasn’t good enough. Then again, that’s barely surprising when you consider it was penned our favourite Brit, Ed Sheeran, so no wonder it made me all gooey-eyed.
This is when I knew – I’ve become a Belieber.
I decided to give his album a cheeky listen, at least once (or so I thought). There’s some Skrillex-assisted songs, a few chilled out tunes, there’s quite a variety. For example, if 'Where Are Ü Now' came on at a club and you hadn't heard it before, you probably wouldn't even think it was Bieber.
For me, it feels like his music's matured as he's gone from a teenager to a (gorgeous) man.
Just forget the odd diva-style tantrum and remember that he’s incredibly talented. The proof is that he’s been breaking records left right and centre. For starters, he’s broken a record previously held by The Beatles, one that was held for 51 years!
You’ve got to hand it to him – he’s done well.
My new year's resolution? Don’t judge an album by its cover.
