Mad Men’s Jon Hamm treated for alcohol addiction in rehab
He underwent a 30-day course
Mad Men actor Jon Hamm has completed a month-long course for alcohol addiction in rehab.
In a brief statement, Hamm’s publicist Annett Wolf said he has the full backing of his partner, actress and film-maker Jennifer Westfeldt, and the couple are calling for privacy.
"With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction," Wolf said. "They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward."
According to TMZ, 44-year-old Hamm underwent 30 days of treatment at the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut.
Hamm, who has played hard-drinking advertising executive Don Draper in Mad Men since 2007, told the Daily Mail in 2012: "I don't drink as much as Don Draper. I would be unconscious if I did."
In an interview with GQ last year, Hamm said he took to alcohol in 1991 when his father died 10 years after his mother.
Speaking about his 20-year-old self, Hamm said: "It just changed everything. It was just a profound sense of being alone. And that lasted a while.
"I was in college, and I had to start over again. I started drinking; it was a rough time. I was at a crossroads. It really could have gone the wrong way."
The final episodes of the seventh and final series of Mad Men start on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on Thursday 9th April.
