We know the exact path of Love Island stars as soon as they leave the villa. In fact, we know it so well, we’ve heard the joke a thousand times. ‘They just want to be able to sell charcoal toothpaste on Instagram,’ people moan, most of us secretly wishing we could make money from brushing our teeth on social media.

But there’s one thing we don’t know, that we’ve been dying to know since Love Island became a golden ticket to influencer-ville, how much do they actually get paid?

Well now, we’ve found out, and honestly, it’s not what you would think. Zara McDermott spoke to Grazia exclusively and told us exactly what Love Island contestants typically charge per post. Of course, it depends on your follower count, and it differs between a feed post and a story post, but generally speaking, it’s in the hundreds.

"A broad figure of what people from Love Island will charge, and it depends on your followers as well, but it's between £400 and £1200 per post," she said. "For a story I'd probably charge £100 per story."

While Zara has been offered £3000 for a story post before, she says she’s wary of anything too high because they typically turn out to be scams, as the £3000 offer was. "It was a makeup brand, but it wasn't real," she continued.

"I had told my friend and she looked it up for me and found loads of complaints about this brand with people saying, 'I ordered from this place and haven’t received it'."

But what do you think, did you expect a bigger or smaller figure? Given that other reports have stated US influencers are paid $1000 per 100,000 followers, according to Chelsea Naftelberg, associate director of content and partnerships for social media agency Attention, it seems that going on a US reality show might be a more lucrative option.
