Love Island's Antigoni Buxton announced for Eurovision
She will represent Cyrus at the 2026 contest
If you're a fan of Love Island, you'll no doubt remember singer/songwriter Antigoni Buxton from series eight, appearing in the villa alongside the likes of Gemma Owen, Luca Bish, Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page back in 2022.
Since being dumped from the villa on Day 25, Antigoni has continued to pursue her music career, and now she's just landed a HUGE gig!
It was announced on Thursday 6th November that Antigoni will represent Cyrus at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Vienna, Switzerland, next May.
Eurovision Cyrus announced the news, writing: 'ANNOUNCEMENT The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation announces that Cyprus will be represented at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest by ANTIGONI. The 2026 Contest will take place in Vienna, Austria in May 2026'.
Speaking about the news, the 30-year-old, who now goes by the name ANTIGONI, commented: 'I’m so honoured 🥹 Cyprus I will make you proud'.
Whilst Antigoni was born in London, she has Cypriot parents in the form of celebrity chef Tonia Buxton, and her husband Paul, and often spoke about her desire to be a successful musical artist.
Antigoni was selected through an internal process by public broadcaster CyBC (RIK) that evaluated eight finalists, including both Josephine and Giorgos Perris.
Earlier this year, Antigoni acted as a support act for previous Eurovision contestant Eleni Foureira in London, where she manifested representing Cyrus. She told the audience: “It’s my dream to represent Cyprus one day at Eurovision so I’m manifesting, If you wanna spam RIK and send my name that would help.”
Antigoni is the first of next year's Eurovision performers announced, meaning she has over seven months to prepare for the big event. The former reality star will have to perform in a Semi-Final in order to make it to the big Final, which will take place on Saturday 16th May in Vienna.
Although her Eurovision song hasn't yet been announced, Antigoni has released tracks such as 'Man Behind The Wall' and 'Sleeping Alone' this year.
