Hoping to encourage an 'emotional revolution'

Lady Gaga has given a heartfelt speech at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence revealing why she once wanted to quit music.

The star was speaking at the Emotion Revolution Summit which is in partnership with her Born This Way Foundation, a charity focused on the wellbeing of young people.

In her speech she admitted she struggled with fame and depression. Referring to herself as a ‘hybrid person’, the 'Just Dance' singer asked herself why she was unhappy and why she wanted to quit music.

She went on to explain it felt ‘shallow’ to spend her days ‘smiling and shaking hands’ and she didn’t enjoy selling perfume when she felt she had much more to offer the world. She admitted she sometimes felt like a moneymaking machine.

Hoping to inspire others to speak out about their emotional wellbeing, she said “no matter how much success you have, no matter how many opportunities, fame, fortune—no matter how many people accept you, to your face, the person that really needs to accept you is you”.
