Soprano singer Sarah Brightman has revealed that she will perform a song during her upcoming 10-day tourist flight to the International Space Station.

The English-born soprano is planning to be the first professional singer to perform from the International Space Station, potentially dueting with a singer on Earth.

Although she hasn’t decided what to sing yet, Brightman said she is working with her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber to pen a song which is ‘beautiful and simple in its message’.

The 54-year-old is currently completing intense training for the voyage at Star City in Russia, where she must undergo a variety of tasks such as learning Russian, before she blasts off to space on 1st September.

Sarah’s nine months of training will prepare her for any eventualities while in space. Although the 16-hour-a-day programme appears gruelling, the singer has revealed that she is really enjoying it.

Brightman will become only the eighth space tourist in history. Her trip to the International Space Station is reported to have cost around £35m – with the singer using her own money to pay for the mission. Although Sarah is aware of the risks of travelling to space, she refuses to think about anything going wrong.

The ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ star, who has sold 30 million records, was inspired to travel to space after watching the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing as girl.
