Former Corrie actor Chris Fountain reveals controversial rap video left him ‘depressed'

The actor hasn't worked for three years

Former Coronation Street actor Chris Fountain has opened up about the struggles of the past three years since sensationally being sacked from the soap following a controversial video.

The soap star lost his place on the cobbles after footage emerged of him rapping about rape and violence in a video which caused public outrage.

Now, the 28-year-old has appeared on This Morning where he admitted how his career has been affected over the last three years and admitted he felt ‘depressed and ashamed’ over his actions.

Speaking to Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, he said “The impact is massive, I have constantly worked since I was 15, started on Hollyoaks, then Dancing on Ice, Coronation Street. Then this happened, it put my family through hell, my mum and my grandma, my dad, my girlfriend and I let a lot of people down including myself."

He then went on to say “I didn't leave the house for a long time, I was really depressed and really ashamed and rightly so."

The actor, who portrayed the role of Tommy Duckworth in the ITV soap, is now looking forward and is set to feature in The Full Monty stage show alongside Gary Lucy.

Speaking about his new role, Chris admitted he is playing ‘the hunky one’ in the highly anticipated stage show and has been working hard on his appearance before opening night in September.

Before appearing in Coronation Street, the actor enjoyed a six year stint in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks as the popular Justin Burton.

Chris has also appeared in TV dramas including Casualty, The Royal and Where the Heart Is.

The Full Monty stage show is set to tour the UK in late September.
