Walt Disney Animation Studios have announced the UK release date for their new computer-animated movie Zootropolis.

Entitled Zootopia in the US, the comedy-adventure stars Nick Wilde as a cunning fox at the centre of a mystery in a vast mammal metropolis.

The film is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons) and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero) and hits UK cinema screens on 25th March 2016.

According to Disney, the plot is as follows:

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootropolis is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery.

Disney will be hoping Zootropolis matches the success of their previous two movies Frozen and Big Hero 6, which collectively made almost $2billion at the global box office.

With a $1.3billion box office haul, 2013’s Frozen is the most successful animated movie of all time and is nothing short of a worldwide phenomenon.
