David de Gea's girlfriend Edurne Garcia to represent Spain at Eurovision
The Manchester United goalkeeper is "very proud"
The girlfriend of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, Edurne Garcia, is representing Spain at the Eurovision song contest this May.
29-year-old Edurne, who has been dating David for five years, will sing the song ‘Amanecer’ at the Vienna Stadthalle in Austria this May.
Unfortunately for David, he’s unlikely to be able to attend the contest as United are playing against Hull in the final game of the season.
David paid tribute to his girlfriend on Twitter saying: “We couldn’t have a better contestant for @Eurovision.”
Speaking about David’s reaction to the news, Edurne said: “He was very happy for me when I told him, just like my family and friends. The people who love you share in your good news.'
“I think he's going to be tied up with league commitments but I hope he can be there at the final along with my family and friends so we can live the experience together.”
Edurne will perform in the Eurovision semi-finals on 19th May and if she gets enough votes she’ll perform at the final four days later.
The music is unlikely to be David’s cup of tea, however. He’s a huge heavy metal fan and lists Metallica as one of his favourite bands.
