May has been an emotional month for Ariana Grande as it saw the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing. Now, the 'No Tears Left To Cry' singer has revealed how she underwent therapy following the bombing which killed 22 people including some of her youngest fans.
Ariana, who was backstage at the time of the attack, has been speaking to The Fader and opened up about the events of that night saying, “I guess I thought with time, and therapy, and writing, and pouring my heart out, and talking to my friends and family that it would be easier to talk about, but it’s still so hard to find the words."
She went on to explain, "When you’re so close to something so tragic and terrifying and opposite of what music and concerts are supposed to be, it kind of leaves you without any ground beneath your feet.”
Hours after the attack, once the singer had been moved to safety she tweeted, 'broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words.' sic
Although in the aftermath of the attack her insurers said she would be fully paid if she cancelled the rest of her tour, she decided she would carry on, cancelling just a handful of dates, before getting back on the road.
In the year since, Ariana has been very quiet on social media, only occasionally posting some clips of music she had been working on, and it wasn't until April this year, when we heard her first music since the attack. In the interview with The Fader Ariana revealed that taking time out was important, she watched a lot of TV and also spent time working on her new album, 'Sweetener'.
Speaking about the therapy she received she said, “It has helped me deal with so much. I think it’s great for everybody. Especially in this regard. Therapy is the best. It really is."
She went on to say, "I feel like all of a sudden I woke up and I’m an adult. It’s really crazy for me.”
Earlier this month Ariana joined Jimmy Fallon on his talk show for her first TV interview since the events of May 2017 and in the emotional interview she struggled to hold back her tears. Jimmy told the pop star, "I just wanted to say, thank you so much for coming on our show and for being strong and for entertaining, for showing up and going back to Manchester and doing a benefit concert. I thought that was awesome of you and I just think you're so strong."
To which Ariana responded quietly, "Thanks, thank you."
Jimmy then went on to read a few lines from an essay Ariana posted online. While she listened, she continued to try to hold back the tears, watch the emotional interview below.
Ariana also confirmed the name of her album would be 'Sweetener' and since the interview, Ariana has been teasing music from her album, most recently posting a video of herself rapping along to her collaboration with Nicki Minaj.
