Tommy Wright eyeing St Johnstone improvement against Kilmarnock
St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has urged his side to improve their record against teams below them in the table as they prepare to host Kilmarnock.
Saints enjoyed victories over all of their top-six rivals last season - Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts, Motherwell and Ross County - but suffered three defeats against Killie, who ended the season in a relegation play-off.
In total Saints took 32 points off the five teams in the top half but 24 against the bottom six sides.
Wright, whose side are fourth in the Ladbrokes Premiership, told the club's official website: Against the top-six sides last year we had a fantastic record. But our record against sides that ended up in the bottom six just wasn't as good.
Every game is important and we want to be more consistent in that area. We will emphasise that to the players.
We know that if we want to improve this season we need to take more points from these games. Ultimately our record against bottom-six opponents wasn't good enough last year and we need to change that.''
