St Johnstone sign Bulgarian defender Plamen Krachunov

St Johnstone have announced the signing of Plamen Krachunov until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old centre-half was on trial with Saints last week which was enough to persuade manager Tommy Wright to offer the Bulgarian, who last played with Slavia Sofia, a deal.

International clearance has been applied for and if received Krachunov could feature in the Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Partick Thistle at Firhill on Tuesday night.

Wright told the club's official website: 'I'm delighted to get him. He's an experienced defender who's very strong, quick and is a good passer of the ball. He came in on trial and did very well in training. He was due to spend another couple of days on trial but by the weekend we'd made our minds up on him and so we got in touch with his advisers to bring him on board. He's someone I believe can play a part between now and the end of the season.'

Krachunov said: 'This move has made me very happy because it's my first move to a club outside of Bulgaria, and I hope with the help of the lads we can achieve great things this season. My first impressions of the club are really positive. I believe I have come to a great place to play for a very good team which over the last few years has been one of the top teams in Scotland.'

'St Johnstone are a team who have qualified for Europe in the last four seasons and I will do what I can to help them qualify again.'
