A man’s appeared in court accused of murdering his own sister.

Elizabeth Bowe, 50, was found at a flat in Bobby Jones Place in the north-east Fife town around 9pm on Saturday September 17.

She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where died around midday on Tuesday September 20.

Today her brother, Charles Gordon, appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court facing a single charge of murder.

He made no plea or declaration during the brief private hearing and his case was continued for further examination.

No application for bail was made and Gordon was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing next week.

A probe was launched by the Police Scotland Major Investigation Team after Miss Bowe was found badly hurt.

Locals said scenes of crime officers in white suits had been seen entering a property in the street to conduct an examination.

One said: "They have been here over the weekend - there's been a solid presence for a couple of days.

"There were a few of them in the white suits taking things in and out.

"It looks really serious."

Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton said: "This is a tragic loss and our thoughts and condolences are with Elizabeth’s loved ones.

"This investigation is now being treated as a murder enquiry and it will continue to be led by detectives from the Major Investigations Team.

"A 51-year-old man has been arrested and appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court in connection with the incident. He has been remanded to custody.

"Anyone with information that can assist our enquires is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
