Defender departs St Johnstone

Frazer Wright has left St Johnstone in search of regular first-team football.

The 35-year-old centre-back has only played once this season, in a 1-1 home draw with Inverness.

Amid competition with Tam Scobbie, Dave Mackay and Brad McKay for a place, and with Steven Anderson set to return from injury after the international break, Wright has decided to move on.

Saints manager Tommy Wright told the club's official website: `"The decision for Frazer to leave wasn't an easy one but was done with Frazer's best interests at heart. It gives him an opportunity to play week in, week out which is important for him.''

Wright made 131 appearances for St Johnstone after joining in June 2011 and started in the 2014 William Hill Scottish Cup final when the Perth side won their first major trophy.

St Johnstone boss Wright added: `"Frazer has been an absolute rock for this football club and has been a tremendous player, particularly in my tenure as manager.

The Frazer Wright and Steven Anderson defensive partnership will be long remembered in the history books of St Johnstone for the success they had together.

"Both I and the football club wish him all the best in the future.''
