Barcelona in focus

The superstars of Barcelona are in Glasgow looking for a Champions League double over Celtic following the 7-0 win over the Hoops in September.

Here, we take a closer look at Luis Enrique's side head of the Group C clash at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

FORM

The Catalan side have not been their usual dominating self in recent times. Following unexpected defeats to Celta Vigo and Manchester City before the international break, Barca were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Malaga at the weekend. As a result they find themselves second in LaLiga, four points behind rivals Real Madrid.

That being said, the Spanish giants are a lot more impressive on their travels, failing to win only once in the league this season. This is the second time this season Barcelona will face Celtic after slipping up at home in their previous fixture, and the last time saw the Scottish champions handed their biggest ever European defeat.

FITNESS

The bad news for Celtic is that Lionel Messi looks to have recovered from a sickness bug that ruled him out of the Malaga game.

The Argentina forward returned to training on Monday following illness and it looks as though the Barca talisman is set to line up against the Hoops.

Better news for Brendan Rodgers is that veteran midfielder Andres Iniesta has not made the trip to Glasgow. He is ruled out of the game through injury, along with Samuel Umtiti and Jeremy Mathieu, but Gerard Pique who was doubtful, is in the squad.

PARKHEAD RECORD

Parkhead has been something of a mixed bag for the Catalan giants in recent visits, having made the trip through Glasgow's east end six times in competitive European competition.

Last time out a goal by Cesc Fabregas was enough to give the Spaniards all three points in the Champions League group stages in 2013.

Arguably the most famous meeting between the two sides at Celtic Park fell on the 125th anniversary of the Hoops in 2012. In a tight affair it fell to 18-year-old substitute Tony Watt to seal a famous 2-1 victory for Neil Lennon's side, one of the biggest in the club's history.

In total Barcelona have won three games out of six at Parkhead in European competition, drawing once and losing twice.

RECENT CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RECORD

Barcelona sit at the summit of Group C having won three games out of four. Their only defeat came at the hands of their former manager Pep Guardiola with Manchester City winning 3-1 at the Etihad stadium.

That being said, with the firepower of Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar at their disposal, the reigning Spanish champions have found the way to goal 14 times in their four previous group games including the 7-0 defeat of Celtic at the Nou Camp.

Last season Enrique' s men fell at the quarter-final stage of the competition after a defeat to Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona have lifted the famous trophy on five occasions, the most recent coming in 2015 when they beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin. They also won the competition in 1992, 2006, 2009 and 2011 as well as being beaten finalists in 1994 when they lost to AC Milan.
