Dundee MP invites Richard Gere to Dundee after meeting last week in Westminster
Could a Hollywood superstar be coming to Dundee?
Richard Gere's been offered the chance to come and see the redevelopment of the city by MP Chris Law.
Richard told the Dundee West MP he hopes his new film, which took 12 years to make will raise awareness of and change attitudes to homelessness.
Mr Law said:
“We discussed not only the very real difficulties facing those without homes, which is a challenge for most cities, but also his role as a social activist and philanthropist working against inequality and intolerance. Through both the Gere Foundation and his public charity, Healing the Divide, Richard has served as a long time human rights advocate and since the early 1980’s, he has vigorously advocated for human rights of the Tibetan people and the preservation of Tibetan culture. Scotland is a country with strong global connections which knows how important it is to work with other nations, institutions and businesses to contribute to the success of the global community and to work with others to embed human rights in places such as Tibet.
“Having spent time leading motorcycle expeditions in that area of the world, it’s a subject very close to my heart and it was good to hear how his organisation is able to give grants to the Tibetan community, for education, public health and emergency relief. I also told Richard about the exciting regeneration which is going on here in Dundee and told him I will give him a guided tour if he cares to pay us a visit!”
