Dundee Art Gallery Shortlisted For Award
The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum has been shortlisted for the Museums Galleries Scotland Enterprising Museum Award.
They have been recognised for efforts to renew and reinvigorate backers of the museum through the McManus 168 supporters group.
McManus 168 is a group of enthusiastic people of all ages brought together with a common purpose to support, celebrate and be part of The McManus.
Members gain behind the scenes access to collections, are invited to exclusive talks and family events, are the first to see our new exhibitions, create supporters events and will have an opportunity to input into the McManus 150 anniversary programme in 2017.
The Enterprising Museum category within the Arts & Business Scotland Awards highlights and celebrates innovative projects that have delivered a high-impact museum experience.
The project has been shortlisted alongside three other museums - Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum, Banchory Museum and the Scottish Maritime Museum.
The winning project will be announced at the Arts & Business Scotland Awards ceremony in Edinburgh on 3 February 2016.
Joanne Orr, Chief Executive of Museums Galleries Scotland, said
“Congratulations to our four shortlisted museums. These projects really exemplify the innovative and entrepreneurial work by museums across Scotland. I am pleased that we can highlight their achievements through the Enterprising Museum Award.”
The group are now encouraging others who share interests in art, culture, history and a love of Dundee to be part of the exciting new community and hope to attract a total of one hundred members by the end of the year.
Sue Moody, chair of The McManus 168 group said
"We're delighted that the McManus 168 group has been shortlisted for this award. We hope that this news inspires more people to join us in celebrating what The McManus has to offer. Membership of the group is a really great way to feel good about the city and have fun with like minded people.
We can give members unique access to the amazing collections and invites to previews. They will also be able to contribute their ideas for marking the 150th anniversary of McManus in 2017 and a subscription to the group could even be an ideal Christmas present."
