Pat Kane reveals details about Hue & Cry’s upcoming album
They're planning on releasing an Electronic Dance Music record
Last updated 5th Aug 2022
Since forming in 1983, Hue & Cry has released 13 studio albums and have continued to perform. The Scottish brothers Pat and Gregory Kane, who are best known for their 1987 hit 'Labour of Love', took to the stage at Rewind Scotland on Saturday 23rd July, and following an amazing set, Pat got chatting to Arlene, Ewen and Cat.
The singer revealed that Hue & Cry will be adding to their music catalogue soon, although it might not be in a direction fans are expecting as he shared: "We are going to get stuck into our EDM record."
Explaining how the idea for the Electronic Dance Music record came about, he said: "Me and Gregory flipped a coin, and we said we were either going to do a ballad record or an EDM record and he won the ballad toss, because I’ve always wanted to do an EDM record. He won the last one so here we are.
"It sounds something like a cross between Disclosure and Daft Punk and maybe a wee bit of David Guetta when we get the chance."
Going on to explain what fans can expect from the dance music album, he joked: "There are several bangers on it, I believe that’s what the children call it."
Although there isn't an exact date for the album's release, Pat did say it would come out at "some point in 2023", before adding: "We hope to be all over the place with some bangers".
Reflecting on their past success, Pat commented: "We tried our hardest to make the best records that we possibly could in our early 20s, we poured everything into it, we took no formula we took no hackery.
"So when you play them, they're as strong as they ever were. We didn't sell out when we made the records".
When asked his favourite song from their impressive back catalogue, he said: "That would be the obscure ones.
"There’s a song called 'Poets Day' which is very difficult to even find. 'Poets Day' stands for ‘p-ss off early tomorrow’s Saturday’ it’s a famous phrase, a worker’s phrase.
"A lot of musicians that are on the stage today were introduced to us by virtue of this song. So if any of you are Hue & Cry obsessives, find that tune."
The Rewind Festival fun continues with Rewind North in Macclesfield from 5th-7th August and Rewind South in Oxfordshire on from 19th-21st August.
